Gran Turismo 4: Classic no?
Ha. Well ultimately I guess that around 60% of you have played this, or even owned this game. I do know for sure however, that I certainly most do - this is Gran Turismo 4.
This game is a brilliant example of Japanese developers in the video-game industry. Evidently, offering a plethora of cars to buy, drive and do whatever you want with them. Well, its important to assimilate that its "whatever you want" within the game...
Polythony made a pretty massive game for the PS2, seriously currently it runs 1,782Kb on my one. Honestly, may seem small but from perspective, pretty big for that time.
(Respecting, that these are quite old games, good images are quite hard to find. But, as you can see graphics have improved and so the same, for the HUD)
Comparing from GT3 (Gran Turismo 3) you
are really able to see that Polythony Digital really worked on the HUD, and 'people design'. I mean, there are a significant larger amount of instances of people quite intricately designed characters throughout the game: From the Tuning place-thing that I just happened to forget the name of, to the actual tracks themselves! My favourite is on the Grand Canyon rally track, as you zip down the yellow/orange straights and the constantly uneven track with the same feeling of driving a over a teenagers face, you begin to see that over the hot horizon you will photographers on the bloomin' road as you speed down at 90MPH as they try to get their shot. (As in photo...) But Polythony did go the extra mile: As soon as you get closer and closer the photographers, amongst their flash from the cameras, will slip back into the audience avoiding getting hit.
I love this. Even if you travel at 500MPH towards these men, no matter how fast you go, they will lunge back into the over-looking audience very swiftly.
There isn't just one of these guys, no. There are a LOT of them. I really do mean it. But seriously, it just adds to the realism. Just like a real rally race - there's so many of these people: its great!
But finally, the cars. The whole reason you play this game: as I said there is a "plethora" of cars, from almost all the ages. GT4 even features the first car in the world. Take a guess...
But you really can go from Australia to South Korea in terms of countries with cars. Or the Netherlands perhaps? Spyker C-8 Laviolette anyone? Or a Toyota Minolta 88C-V race car, or maybe the classic Corvette?
Answer is, you choose. On a regular basis I am always speechless of choice when I am a on free play you know, however it can just be off-putting as you simply, just don't know what to drive!
But this game is 'Humongo' according to my fellow friend, Louis. But enjoy!
